Borrow needed medical equipment, free of charge.
Neighbor to Neighbor loans durable medical equipment to local residents and visitors to our area for short-term use (up to six months). All equipment is loaned at NO CHARGE. Available equipment includes hospital beds and bed rails, Hoyer and Sit-to Stand lifts, lift chairs, wheelchairs, transport chairs, walkers, canes, crutches, knee scooters, commodes, elevated toilet seats, bath and shower benches, bariatric-sized equipment to accommodate those weighing up to 500 lbs., and assistive devices. Some items may have waiting lists. We also provide incontinence products, when available. Appointments are needed to gain access to the medical equipment facilities. For an appointment, please call the office at (920) 743-7800 to get the information needed to schedule an appointment with the volunteer on call.
Our main equipment location is in Sturgeon Bay, with satellite sites in Northern Door (between Baileys Harbor and Fish Creek), on Washington Island, and at Door County Medical Center through their Emergency Department. Equipment is provided at no charge to anyone needing it; however, financial donations are appreciated and help us to continue offering this service.
We also accept donations of gently used and new medical equipment. Please contact us to find out what items we accept and how to donate them.
The Northern Door equipment facility is currently closed due to Covid-19. All Door County residents are encouraged to use the Sturgeon Bay equipment facility at this time. The Sturgeon Bay facility is fully operational, with a few new procedures. All who are coming to the Sturgeon Bay equipment facility must wear a face mask. This is absolutely mandatory. In addition, plan to maintain a social distance of six feet between the volunteer, yourself, and other consumers. And, finally, if you are going to be trying different pieces of equipment or getting multiple items when there, ask the volunteer for a pair of gloves to wear while at the facility. Hand sanitizer is available for your use also. Call the office at 920.743.7800 for contact information for the volunteer who is on call for the day. We are closed in the evening, on weekends, and on holidays.
